Hyderabad: The Telangana Olympic Association (TOA) president Prof K Ranga Rao, in a letter to the Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS), requested the release of funds for the functioning of the State sports associations.

He also said the government has not released pending dues of the bodies despite submitting relevant documents.

Addressing the letter to SATS chief, Ranga Rao wrote that the State government also drastically cut down the sports budget to Rs 30 crore per annum and the amount would not be sufficient for running sports.

“This is a meagre budget and moreover it is hardly sufficient to meet the expenses involved in making payments of salaries to employees, pensioners, electricity, water and other maintenance charges. But, seeing the plight of many athletes, the associations have raised loans and met the expenditure in conducting State, national and international level tournaments to ensure that the athletes didn’t suffer for want of exposure and miss the selections for national teams,” he added.

He further revealed that the sporting activities in the Covid times compounded their financial burden.

The State government has to clear dues totaling Rs 3.5 crore to State associations. In the wake of three months left before the next budget, he requested the Sports Ministry to release funds.
