Hyderabad: The Telangana Police has been conferred with the prestigious Digital Engineering Award for “Top Sustainability Initiative” in the Challenger category for its innovative use of GIS and AI technologies during Ganesh Chaturthi festival immersion.
The Digital Engineering Awards, organized by L&T Technology Services in association with ISG (Information Services Group), and CNBC-TV18 , recognize global engineering excellence and innovation across the globe.
This project represents a pioneering effort in technology-led coordination of large-scale public gatherings, setting a global benchmark for smart city technologies by integrating innovation, sustainability, and safety, said V V Srinivasa Rao, Additional DGP (PCS&S,).
The initiative utilized GIS-based applications developed by the Telangana Police Command Control Center, allowing for real-time tracking of pandals, crowd movements, and traffic flow. AI-powered surveillance systems, including 733 CCTV cameras and drones, were strategically deployed to monitor the immersion processions and detect anomalies such as illegal parking and overcrowding, he explained
“By harnessing advanced GIS and AI tools, the Telangana Police, in collaboration with over 15,000 municipal workers and 25,000 police personnel, successfully ensured the peaceful celebration of the ten-day festival while prioritizing sustainability,” said V V Srinivasa Rao.
