Hyderabad: Waterproof, tear proof and tamper proof – that’s what the Intermediate pass certificate cum memorandum of marks will be from the next year.
The certificate is set to become more robust as the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TG BIE) is giving a major upgrade to the certificate with new safety features and make it durable for the lifetime.
It will also have the student’s colour photograph. Apart from using tear and waterproof material, the Board has also decided to enhance the certificate paper thickness from 120 GSM to 180 GSM.
This change comes following instances of certificates being damaged due to flooding during monsoon season. As students’ certificates were damaged during floods in Mulugu district and Hyderabad in the past, the TG BIE had issued duplicate certificates free of cost.
Further, as part of the re-design, each certificate will come printed with a unique Quick Response (QR) code, which will be linked to the Board’s digital database. The initiative is aimed at allowing employers, educational institutions and other recruiting agencies to quickly verify a student’s academic credentials.
“Once the QR code is scanned with a mobile phone, it connects with the database of the Board, verifying whether or not the certificate is genuine. It has also been decided to print a colour photograph of the student instead of black and white as is being done now,” a senior TG BIE official said.
The TG BIE has also drawn up plans to integrate students’ credentials on its website to allow employers, educational institutions and other recruiting agencies verify credentials of prospective employees.
“Since six years’ data is already available with the Centre for Good Governance, we will integrate the same to the Board’s website. This will enable prospective employers to easily verify credentials of candidates on the website instead of visiting the Board’s office seeking details,” the senior official added.
