Associations representing Rural Medical Practitioners staging a protest at Dharna Chowk in Hyderabad on Monday.
Hyderabad: Associations representing Rural Medical Practitioners (RMPs) and Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) are locked in a major stand-off over the recent inspections and registering of police cases against quacks, who are unqualified medical practitioners without an MBBS degree.
On Monday, the association of RMPs and Private Medical Practitioners (PMPs), under the umbrella of Telangana Grameena Vaidyulu Samaikhya, conducted a major protest at Dharna Chowk against the recent raids and police cases against RMPs by Telangana State Medical Council.
The RMPs alleged that the Medical Council was intentionally targeting and harassing them and called for an immediate halt to inspections at their healthcare facilities by the council.
Responding to the allegations, the TSMC made it clear that raids and filing complaints with the police will continue throughout the State. “TSMC is the concerned authority in Telangana State to raid and file complaints. The Council is simply doing its duty, and it will not stop. Quacks are violating the law, and they will be prosecuted,” the Council said.
Multiple associations representing doctors, including Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) and Health Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) have condemned RMPs and PMPs (private medical practitioners) for protesting at Indira Park.
“These illegal quacks, who have no medical qualification or certification, are demanding legal recognition. They continue to play with the lives of innocent by treating them. Their call to stop raids by the Medical Council, prevent legal action, and halt arrests is nothing but an attempt to escape accountability for their dangerous practices,” they said.
