Hyderabad: In a move to inculcate leadership qualities from a young age, the School Education department has decided to launch a ‘School Captain’ system in all government-run schools under its ambit.
The initiative mandates each school to have a captain, vice captain and four group captains. The school leaders, who will be given badges, will serve as the brand ambassadors, representing the school at events and meetings. They are expected to act as a bridge between students and teachers, and school administration.
Apart from ensuring discipline within the school, the school leaders are expected to encourage student participation in academic and sports activities. They have to help coordinate school clubs, such as the eco club, girl child club, and among others.
A proposal sent by School Education director Dr. E Naveen Nicolas seeking permission to introduce this new leadership initiative has been approved by the government.
“The initiative is to inculcate leadership qualities among students and they can also identify and report problems faced by students to the management,” Dr. Nicolas said on Saturday.
