Hyderabad: The State government on Tuesday sent the draft of the ordinance facilitating 42 percent reservations to BCs in the local body elections to Governor Jishnu Dev Varma for approval. Last week, the State cabinet had decided to amend the Panchayat Raj Act 2018 to extend 42 percent reservations to BCs.
The High Court has already directed the State government to conduct the local body elections before September 30. Accordingly, the government now intends to provide reservations through an ordinance.
The Panchayat Raj department had sent a draft to the Law department for approval. Accordingly, after the Panchayat Raj Ministry approved it, it was then sent to the Chief Minister and finally to the Raj Bhavan for Governor’s approval. If the Governor approves the ordinance, the amendment will come into force.
The Dedicated Commission would also make its recommendations accordingly to the local bodies for providing reservations to BCs.
Finally, the State government after finalising the reservations, will forward the recommendations to the State Election Commission.
