Telangana shivers: Kohir records low of 5.6 degree Celsius on Friday, chilly and foggy weather to persist through Sankranti
Cold wave conditions continue across Telangana, with temperatures dipping as low as 5.6°C in Kohir. Fog and chilly weather are expected to persist until January 11, before temperatures rise slightly

Hyderabad: People preparing to travel and celebrate the Sankranti festival in the districts should brace for a foggy and frigid week ahead. Despite a forecast indicating a marginal rise in mercury levels after January 11, the current cold wave like conditions, which saw Kohir in Sangareddy district record lows of 5.6 degree Celsius on Friday, are expected to make the festival period chilly.
Based on multiple reports and forecasts IMD-Hyderabad, the weather will continue to remain chilly till this weekend i.e. January 11, 2025. Thereafter, the minimum temperatures are expected to rise again. However, chilly weather and foggy conditions will continue to prevail throughout Telangana.
“Minimum temperatures are likely to be below normal by 2 degree Celsius to 4 degree Celsius, at isolated pockets over Telangana during the next 2 days,” IMD-Hyderabad forecast on Friday said.
Meanwhile, cold wave like conditions prevailed at multiple locations in Hyderabad surroundings and districts, as several regions recorded minimum temperatures in single digits, between Thursday night and Friday morning.
Some of the top locations in and around Hyderabad that recorded single-digit minimum temperatures (in degree Celsius) included Hyderabad Central University, Serilingampally (7.4), Moula Ali (8.8), Rajendranagar (8.9), Qutbullapur (10.7), Alwal (11), Sivrampalle (11.2). and West Marredpally (11.2).
Temperatures in the districts fell even further compared to the capital. Kohir in Sangareddy district recorded 5.6 degree C, followed by Tiryani in Kumrambheem Asifabad (6.0), Marpalle in Vikarabad (8.2) and Jukkal in Kamareddy (8.1 degree Celsius).
