Telangana SIR: 47 lakh electors yet to complete hearings, names may be removed

Around 47 lakh electors in Telangana are yet to complete hearings under the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Officials said fresh notices would be issued to those who fail to attend, with names potentially removed after multiple notices.

Hyderabad: Names of the electors, who fail to turn up for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls hearings, are likely to be removed from the final electoral list in the State.

Even as the voters have been given the flexibility of sending any adult family member to attend the SIR hearings on their behalf, a staggering 47 lakh electors in the State are yet to complete hearings as of Thursday.

According to the Telangana Electoral Office official sources, election officials will be serving fresh notices on electors who fail to turn up the hearings on the designated day and time. Such a provision will be available until the notice, claims and objections phase ends on November 5.

“If electors fail to attend the hearing even after multiple notices, their names will be directly removed from the final electoral list. They have to submit the Form-6 for fresh inclusion in the voter list. We are anticipating the process to pick up after Ganesh idols immersion,” official sources said.

The State has a total of 3,38,26,448 voters and 2,64,87,213 submitted enumeration forms. A staggering 73,39,235 voters have been categorised under the Absent Shifted, Death and Duplicate voter (ASDD) category.

Among those who submitted forms, the SIR notices were generated for a total of 92,87,576 voters under categories – anomalies such as mismatch of name, spelling error or age, and no mapping with SIR 2002 list.

Out of 85.46 lakh electors who have already been served notices as of Thursday around 38 lakh voters responded and their names have been marked for addition in the final electoral roll after verifying their documents.

However, around 3,400 electors from across the State were found ineligible for inclusion in the roll after they failed to submit supporting documents and for using morphed photographs. The officials concerned were instructed to initiate action against individuals who produce fraudulent information or morph their photograph during the SIR process as per provisions under the Representation of the People Act.

As per the SIR revised schedule, the individuals can raise claims and file objections on the draft electoral roll until October 7. The notice, disposal of claims and objections phase will conclude on November 5. The final electoral roll publication is scheduled for November 9.
