Hyderabad: Thousands of teaching and non-teaching staff of the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions had subdued Dasara celebrations with the Congress government yet to release their September salaries.
While the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Institutions Society regular employees have not been paid for September, the State government did not credit salaries for part-time and contract staff for the last three months. At present, nearly 15,000 staff, including regular teaching and non-teaching staff, part-time and outsourcing, are working for the institutions.
Delay in crediting the salaries has caused severe financial hardships and immense distress among employees leading to them missing their EMIs, house rents and children’s school fee besides struggling to meet medical expenses. Some lament at cheques issued for loan repayments having bounced impacting their credit ratings.
The Congress party came to power assuring employees of salaries on the first day of the month but as per teachers, the staff never received their salaries as assured. The Telangana Social Welfare Residential Teachers Union (TSWRTU) demanded the government immediately release September salaries besides three months – July, August and September – salaries of part-time and outsourcing employees without further delay.
Meanwhile, a message was circulated among Society teachers’ WhatsApp groups stating that salaries may be credited after October 6. “Due to reasons such as the recent change of our Secretary, the Head Office digitalisation and e-filing process, and the Secretary being out of station for other official reasons, the salaries may be released after October 6,” the message read.
