Telangana Student of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group selected for IIT-Kharagpur
He is the first student to have achieved the opportunity to study both post-graduation and PhD at the institution. He was a student of Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Degree College (TTWRDC)-Boath.

Adilabad: A student belonging to Andh tribe, classified as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), has been shortlisted by prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Kharagpur to pursue joint M Sc-PhD programme. Results of screening of the candidates were announced by the institution on Thursday.
He is the first student to have achieved the opportunity to study both post-graduation and PhD at the institution. He was a student of Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Degree College (TTWRDC)-Boath.
Dr A Srinivasa Swamy, the principal of TTWRDC Boath, said that Akre Bharath, B Sc (MPC) final year student was selected for studying joint M Sc-PhD programme at the premier engineering institution. “He is the maiden student from the tribe to have bagged the opportunity to pursue the course at the IIT-Kharagpur,” Swamy claimed.
A native of Patnapur village in Jainoor mandal in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, 21-year old is the only son of Narayana and Sumanabai, a small-time farmer couple. “I am elated to have been selected by IIT-Kharagpur. I would like to become a professor of mathematics. I attribute my success to encouragement and support extended by my teachers and Principal Srinivasa Swamy,” Bharath told ‘Telangana Today.’
In the meantime, another student of this college Kursenga Surender, a Raj Gond secured an admission into M Sc Mathematics and Scientific Computing at National Institute of Technology (NIT)-Warangal. They both excelled in Joint Admission for MSc (JAM) held by IISC-Bengaluru to provide admissions into various branches of engineering and other streams of higher education at the premier engineering institutions across the country.
