Siddipet: A physical education teacher thrashed students of a social welfare residential school at Kondapak for turning up late for special classes on Wednesday morning. With the beating by teacher Vasu, who took the attendance when the students came to class late by barely 10 minutes, being quite brutal, teachers had to shift a couple of them to government hospital in Siddipet.

School vice-principal Krishna said that several students had complained to him that the teacher had beat them. The issue was taken to the notice of higher officials, the vice-principal said.

With one of the students, Harshavardhan, a native of Ramanathapur in Hyderabad, complaining to his parents, they arrived at the school and demanded the suspension of Vasu. More parents soon turned up and staged a protest on the premises of the school and demanded stern action against the teacher.

Following a complaint, Social Welfare Residential Schools zonal officer Pratyusha carried out an inquiry into the matter. She said she would submit a report to higher officials on the incident. With the teacher reportedly apologising, the students later attended classes.
