Telangana teacher in race for ‘America’s Favourite Teacher’ title
Nagulmeera Sheik, a Mathematics teacher from Nereducherla in Suryapet district, has reached the finals of the America’s Favourite Teacher contest in the United States. With 15 years of teaching experience across UAE, Africa, and India, he now teaches in Georgia.

Suryapet: A Telangana teacher is in the fray in America’s Favourite Teacher contest finals in the United States for 2026.
Meet Nagulmeera Sheik of Nereducherla in Suryapet district. He has 15 years of teaching experience. He has taught in the UAE, African countries and at Teja Vidyalaya in Kodad of Suryapet district before moving to the USA. Currently, he is teaching in a public school in Georgia.
He qualified after clearing multiple initial rounds and is competing in the final round of the prestigious contest, organised by Colossal. The winner of the competition will get $25,000 dollars as prize money apart from a trip to Hawaii and an appearance in the popular magazine Reader’s Digest.
The winner will also have the opportunity to hold a school assembly with Bill Nye, a well-known American television presenter. Nagulmeera currently stands in third place in the contest with four days still left.
Nagulmeera said that he became a teacher because education transformed his life. Growing up in a poor family, the Mathematics teacher said that he balanced part-time work while earning his Master’s in Applied Mathematics and B.Ed.
“This journey instilled resilience and a deep respect for learning. I am committed to giving back by helping students overcome obstacles, build confidence, and realise their full potential,” he said.
