Telangana teachers announce Maha Dharna, Chalo Assembly over education demands

Teacher unions in Telangana have announced a series of protests from August 7, demanding the announcement of the PRC, more teaching staff, timely transfers and improvements in the school education sector. The agitation will culminate in a State-level Maha Dharna on August 29.

Hyderabad: Demanding issues in the school education sector be resolved, the government and local body school teachers on Tuesday announced a series of protests, including maha dharna and Chalo Assembly programme.

Speaking at a press conference here, TSUTF president Chava Ravi and others said the government failed to honour its promise of allocating 15 per cent of the State budget to education sector and an attempt was being made to reduce the number of schools citing quality improvement.


According to the USPC, the government introduced pre-primary classes but restricted them to UKG, besides limiting pre-primary classes until 12 noon, while private schools continue until 4 pm. Teachers said they were being questioned by working parents as to who would look after their children in the afternoon if they were enrolled in the government schools.

Teachers decided to hold lunch break protests wearing black badges on August 7 and wear black badges every day till the announcement of PRC. The protest plans include rallies at mandal headquarters on August 12 and 13, dharnas at district headquarters on August 19, and State-level maha dharna on August 29.

A Venkat (TSUTF), Ch Anil Kumar and N Tirupati (TPTF), M Somaiah and T Linga Reddy (DTF), Kommu Ramesh (BTF), Medi Charan Das (SC/ST TF), S Harikishan (TTA), B Kondaiah (MSTF), and Y Vijaya Kumar and Ravinder (SC/ST US), among others, participated.

Teachers demands:

* Two teachers in every primary school

* One teacher for each class in schools with 50 students

* District educational officers for newly formed districts

* Deputy educational officer for every revenue division

* Mandal educational officers in all districts.

* PRC announcement

* Completion of transfers and promotions by August 15

* Service weightage in TET

* Special TET with subject-wise papers
