Karimnagar: Tension prevailed in Manakondur constituency on Wednesday after both Congress and BRS activists challenged each other for an open debate on irregularities in the distribution of Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) cheques.

BRS leader and former MLA Rasamai Balkishan had recently levelled allegations against Manakondur MLA Kavvampally Satyanarayana, stating that irregularities took place in the distribution of CMRF cheques.

Congress workers had indulged in a scam worth Rs 6 crore by denying CMRF cheques to beneficiaries, he alleged.

Reacting to this, Congress workers invited the former MLA for an open debate in Bejjanki mandal on Wednesday. While the Congress workers were moving towards Bejjanki, police took them into custody anticipating that they may attack Balkishan’s farmhouse in Gundaram.

More Congress activists were taken into custody in Thimmapur, Renigunta and other places.

On the other hand, a huge police force was deployed at the MLA’s camp office in Manakondur anticipating that BRS workers may attack the camp office. Though the situation remained tense, no untoward incident was reported till evening.
