Hyderabad: Telangana State will soon come out with a spacetech framework soon. This will outline the ecosystem building steps and roles of each stakeholder in space tech. Telangana will be the second State after Kerala to have a spacetech policy.

IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao has been vociferous in his plea for a Indian Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) in Hyderabad. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh on Friday announced that Hyderabad will be one of the proposed venues for the new centre in view of the kind of infrastructure startup culture present in Hyderabad.

“Telangana has identified spacetech as one of the key areas. There are many players and startups working in this vertical. We will soon come out with a spacetech framework,” said Rama Devi Lanka, Director, Emerging Technologies and Officer on Special Duty.

She was speaking at a session “Creating a technology innovation ecosystem,’ organised as part of the 24th National Conference on eGovernance here in Hyderabad. The two-day event ended on Saturday.

Spacetech has the potential for global commericialisation and a huge multiplier effect on the economy. From launch vehicles and satellites enabling indigenization to downstream application enabling impact on sectors lie agriculture, space is the new frontier. Also, there is a national impetus to grow the private participation with the release of the Spacecom Policy, Space RS Policy, National Geospatial Policy etc and gain share in the global market projected to be $558 billion by 2026, the official said.

Meanwhile, IT and Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, who chaired the session, said Telangana has been the front runner in adopting technology to offer government-citizen services. “We turn into the first customer of the startups which evolve a proof of concept in Telangana. This is by bilateral arrangement and not by bidding. Getting the first customer is a difficult part of the entrepreneurial journey,” he said.

Venkateshwara Rao, Commissioner E-Gov, said Telangana is using real time digital identity verification extensively to offer citizen services. Use of a three-factor authentication makes it a secure system, he said, adding that about one lakh pensioners have authenticated their identity for life certificates through the digital channels in 2021 compared to 30,000 in 2019 when it was first introduced .

Rajendra Nimje, Director General of Centre for Good Governance , the think tank to foster growth-oriented and people centric governance, said Telangana has made rapid strides in e-governance with about 250 applications. E-governance is an off-shoot of good governance, he said.

Sujai Karampuri, Electronics Director, said T-Fibre, the flagship programme of the Government of Telangana to provide high speed Internet across the State, is creating infrastructure that will last 25 to 30 years. It will have the ability to offer internet from 20mbps to 1Gb with an average 100 mbps speed. The system will be scalable to offer higher speeds with minimum changes in the infrastructure. It will cater to the government, households, enterprises, cell towers and other use cases.
