Siddipet: Endowments and Forest Minister Konda Surekha released water into Mallanna Sagar’s main canal to meet the irrigation needs of farmers of ayacut under the project on Saturday at Thoguta. Later, the Minister also released water into Ranganayaka Sagar’s canals at Chandlapur in Chinna Kodur mandal.
Speaking at Thoguta immediately after the release of water from Mallanna Sagar, Dubbak MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy said that Congress Party leaders, who had put all-out effort to stall the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), released water into the canals.
The Dubbak MLA said that it was a recognisation of the work the former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had done throughout his 10 years of rule. Reddy said that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his government must remain indebted to Chandrashekhar Rao for making their job easy by building such projects.
He said that the irrigation department officials decided to release the water as former minister T Harish Rao and himself made repeated demands for the release of water from both Mallanna Sagar and Ranganayaka Sagar.
He also demanded the government release water from Mallanna Sagar to Ramayampet, Chinna Shankarampet canals and Kudavelly Vagu to meet the needs of the entire Ayacut under the project.
He further said that the irrigation authorities will impound 80 lakes in Sidddipet and Dubbak constituencies now by releasing water from the Mallanna Sagar canal. The Dubbak MLA lashed out at the government as they were delaying the building of canals under Mallanna Sagar despite repeated appeals. EOM
