Hyderabad: Telangana is poised to emerge as an Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturing hub with the State developing two exclusive two exclusive clusters for manufacture of EVs and batteries at Chandanavelli in RR district and in Divitipalli at Mahabubnagar, said Sujai Karampuri, Director (Electronics), Dept of ITE & C.

He was speaking at a webinar on `Decoding National and Telangana Electric Vehicle Policy’, organised by industry body Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) in association with India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA). The State is making good progress in this direction by formulating EV policy and extending incentives, he said.


The webinar stressed the need to project the cost effectiveness of EV vehicles to customers to understand it and shift to EV vehicles. It also highlighted the need to work on alternatives to lithium-Ion batteries as the supplies of these sources are monopolised by few countries. The transition EV mobility is unavoidable and the EV infrastructure should be strengthened across the country.

The event also pointed out that the country is lagging in setting up long term goals like other countries and questions about power availability for supporting the EV transition were also raised.

Investors who came forward to set up EV manufacturing charging stations expressed satisfaction with the encouragement and proactiveness of the State government and suggested that power infrastructure should be strengthened for adoption of EV mobility at a considerable scale, a release said.
