Hyderabad: Hyderabad loses nearly Rs 1 crore every day to cyber frauds, City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said on Friday, underscoring the alarming scale of digital crimes and calling for a united response from law enforcement, banks, telecom operators and citizens.
Speaking at the National Round Table on Digital Trust and Citizen Protection, organised by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), Sajjanar said cybercriminals thrive on mule bank accounts and ghost SIM cards, urging stakeholders to work together to eliminate them.
Describing cybercrime as one of the world’s most organised forms of crime, he stressed that immediate reporting is critical for recovering lost money.
He urged victims to contact the 1930 National Cyber Crime Helpline as soon as they detect fraud, calling it the “golden hour” for freezing stolen funds.
Sajjanar also emphasised that public awareness is the most effective tool against cyber fraud, encouraging citizens to stay vigilant and avoid falling prey to online scams.
The round table, themed “Protecting Citizens from Fear-Driven and Greed-Driven Digital Frauds,” brought together senior police officials, banking and telecom experts, cyber-security professionals, legal experts, policymakers and industry leaders to discuss measures for strengthening digital trust and citizen protection.
