Hyderabad: The government will promote development of social infrastructure in Hyderabad in public private partnership or even by giving incentives to companies developing them, said Industries an IT Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan on Tuesday.
While the social infra in the western part of the city towards Hitec City is on par with international standards, there is scope to develop them in the eastern, northern and southern parts of Hyderabad, which are seeing an increased IT and ITeS activity. The Growth in Dispersion Policy (GRID), which encourages companies to set up their operations across the city, also focuses on developing the social infrastructure along with physical infrastructure like roads, drinking water, storm water drains and intelligent transport facilities, he said.
He was speaking at the curtain raiser event of the second edition of Infrastructure Summit 2021, which will be held later this month by IT industry body Hysea and will focus on smart mobility, energy and workplace.
Many companies wanting to set up IT operations in India shortlist Bengaluru and Hyderabad due to the presence of enabling ecosystems. Presence of good infrastructure is the key factor that is tilting their decision in favour of Hyderabad, the official said.
“The government is always on the lookout for ways to improve the infrastructure. Even as the Metro rail project Phase I was completed, it started thinking about expanding the facility upto Hyderabad Airport in the second phase. The Outer Ring Road is not older than ten years and the government now has plans for a regional ring road. Infrastructure development is a continuous process,” said Ranjan.
Apart from IT sector, the life sciences and pharma sector is also doing good. “The importance of having a facility like the Genome Valley has been underscored by the pandemic. Prime Minister has visited the place. Representatives of more than 66 countries too visited the place to learn about the best practices,” said Ranjan.
Bharani Aroll, HYSEA President said more 300 than leaders from IT/ITES industry, IT infra providers, consultants, Government and research and development institutions are expected to participate in the event this year. CBRE is knowledge partner for this summit. HYSEA may enter into a MOU on green power with Telangana’s energy department as part of its efforts to reduce the carbon footprint, he said.
“The challenge is to get employees back to work in a safe manner and create an engaged workforce. As we work towards this, infrastructure will play a critical role not only in our growth, but in retaining our talent base and creating a sustainable world,” said Arindam Banerrji, EVP and Managing Director, Wells Fargo, India and Philippines.
