Mahabubnagar: Tension prevailed in Kosgi town of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal constituency after a portion of a temple was demolished during a road widening exercise on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred around 6 pm. According to reports, Congress leaders arrived at the Uradamma temple located on the Kosgi-Hyderabad road with earthmovers and initiated the demolition of a section of the shrine.
Residents alleged that the exercise was carried out without prior notice to the local community. They also questioned the absence of government officials at the site and objected to Congress leaders overseeing the demolition work.
The situation soon turned tense as residents confronted those involved in the exercise. On learning about the incident, representatives of various Hindu organisations reached the spot and staged a protest. They raised slogans against the demolition and demanded action against those responsible.
As tensions escalated, the demolition work was halted and the earthmovers were withdrawn from the area. Till late in the evening, residents continued their protest by staging a sit-in on the road, reports said.
