Temple wearable to launch in six colours, says Deepinder Goyal

Deepinder Goyal says his Temple wearable will launch in six colours, with pre-orders potentially opening next week. The device, worn near the temple, is designed to monitor brain blood flow and metabolic indicators, though experts caution that wearable readings cannot replace clinical evaluation.

Hyderabad: Deepinder Goyal, founder of Zomato and Eternal, has said his Temple wearable will be launched in six colours, with pre-orders potentially opening as early as next week.

In a recent post on X, formerly Twitter, Goyal said the launch edition of Temple would be available in True Gold, Rose Gold, Black Mirror, Real Jade, Deep Blue and Purple Funk. He added that people who have joined the early-access waitlist would get priority when bookings open.

“Six colors for the launch edition of temple. Pre-orders open soon – hopefully next week; just need certainty on a couple more items. Folks on early access waitlist get priority access,” Goyal wrote.

Temple has attracted attention for its unusual form factor. Unlike conventional smartwatches and fitness bands, the wearable is designed to be worn on the side of the head, near the temple.

Goyal, 43, has described the latest version as the smallest wearable on the market by volume. In an earlier post, he claimed that Temple was “the smallest wearable on the market” by volume and described it as a highly powerful device.

The wearable is designed to collect information related to brain blood flow and a metric called Entropy, which Goyal says reflects the body’s metabolic and sympathetic demand.

Temple’s reported functions include monitoring changes associated with brain blood flow, cognitive load, stress and fatigue. Its BrainFlow technology is designed to continuously monitor changes through sensors positioned near the temple.

Goyal has also described Entropy as a real-time measure of the body’s metabolic demand. He said the metric can change with factors including sleep, stress, exercise, caffeine and meditation.

Temple uses light-based sensing technology to collect signals from tissues and blood vessels. However, questions remain over how accurately measurements taken near the temple can represent blood flow in deeper brain structures.

Dr Arun L Naik, an AIIMS-trained neurosurgeon, has raised concerns over the technology’s ability to accurately measure blood flow in deeper brain arteries and stressed that such a wearable should not replace established neurological investigations.

Medical readings from a wearable should also not be treated as a clinical diagnosis. Any concerning symptoms require assessment by a qualified healthcare professional.
