Hyderabad: A delegation led by Tellapur Neighbourhood Association (TeNA) president Ramana Eshwarigari met the Tellapur mandal revenue officer on Saturday and sought immediate action against alleged illegal groundwater extraction in the area.
TeNA members alleged that commercial water tankers were depleting the local water table and leaving borewells dry. More than 200 high-capacity tankers were reportedly operating daily along the Tellapur-Osman Nagar (Mayfair Infinity) road, extracting and transporting groundwater commercially without authorisation.
They said the extraction points were located close to apartment complexes, putting thousands of families at risk.
The residents’ welfare association demanded the immediate seizure of tankers, borewell equipment, pumps and motors operating without valid permission. It also sought heavy penalties against violators to safeguard dwindling water resources.
“If the illegal extraction points are not seized and permanently closed, Tellapur and Osman Nagar residents will have no option but to protest to protect water sources and ensure public safety,” TeNA members warned.
