Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in the Jubilee Hills constituency as the polling deadline drew closer on Tuesday. BRS leaders alleged widespread rigging and bogus voting by Congress supporters, particularly in Krishna Nagar and Yousufguda areas, during the final hour of polling.
BRS workers reportedly caught several women attempting to cast fake votes at multiple polling stations, including booths 235 to 240 at Amaravati School in Srinagar Colony. Similar incidents were reported from Yousufguda and Krishnanagar, where some of the accused allegedly fled when confronted by BRS cadre.
At the Krishna Nagar polling booth, BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha and party leaders were allegedly forced out of the premises. Upset over the situation, Sunitha, along with her children, staged a dharna near the booth, accusing Congress leaders of bringing outsiders and using fake voter IDs to cast bogus votes. She alleged that rowdy sheeters and followers of local Congress leader Naveen Yadav were threatening BRS workers and intimidating voters.
Sunitha also claimed that the Congress had gone to the extent of casting votes in the names of deceased persons by altering photographs. “They are casting votes of dead people, including an elderly woman known to me who died a few months ago. I have never seen such atrocious conditions anywhere,” she said.
Police later intervened and arrested several BRS activists during the protest. Meanwhile, BRS leaders expressed anger over police inaction, stating that officers were driving them away instead of stopping the bogus voting.
