Hyderabad: Tension prevailed on Balapur road after miscreants allegedly desecrated an idol at a Hanuman temple on Monday night.
According to the police, some persons had broken the iron grill of the temple, entered the premises, and desecrated the idol. A few devotees who came to the temple to offer prayers in the morning noticed the temple lock tampered and alerted the committee members.
On information about the incident through the temple committee, the police reached the spot and started an investigation. “The local temple committee members carried out the necessary rituals and offered a puja. The situation is peaceful. Someone appears to have committed some mischief, a case is registered and an investigation is going on,” said DCP Rajendranagar, S Sreenivas.
Several leaders of Hindu organisations visited the spot and demanded strict action against the culprits.
Following the incident, the police beefed up security in Maqbool colony area where the temple is located.
The police formed several teams to identify the persons who had desecrated the temple. The task force teams were checking the footage of the closed-circuit cameras installed around the temple.
