Hyderabad police have launched an inquiry into a viral social media video purportedly showing a man firing a pistol into the air during a function. Authorities are verifying whether the weapon seen in the footage is a genuine firearm or a dummy pistol.

Hyderabad: The Chandrayangutta police are probing a social media video purportedly showing a man firing a pistol into the air during a function.

The nearly one-minute clip went viral on Wednesday, prompting senior police officials to order an inquiry. Some social media posts claimed that the man had fired multiple rounds. The video was reportedly recorded by a person attending the function.

Chandrayangutta Inspector R. Ravinder said the police had taken up the matter and were verifying the authenticity of the weapon. 

“We are verifying whether the weapon is a original firearm or a dummy pistol. We will comment after the inquiry,” he said.

The police are also verifying the circumstances and location where the video was recorded.
