Nagarkurnool: Tension prevailed in the 15th ward here on Wednesday afternoon after BRS leaders accused Congress leaders of encouraging bogus voting and thwarted their attempts.
Heated arguments broke out between BRS and Congress leaders over the allegations. The situation escalated when Congress leaders allegedly tried to facilitate bogus voting by bringing two women to a polling centre in the 15th ward. Suspicious about the two women, BRS leaders stopped them and asked officials to verify their credentials. However, Congress leaders argued that there was no foul play. In the process, tempers flared and heated exchanges took place between leaders of the two parties, sources said.
On learning about the incident, former BRS MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy rushed to the polling centre and sought an explanation from officials. Unconvinced by their response, he alleged that officers were supporting the ruling party. He further charged that Congress leaders were trying to facilitate bogus voting in the 14th and 15th wards and were distributing money and liquor to voters. Police intervened to bring the situation under control.
Meanwhile, a Congress leader was allegedly caught red-handed while distributing money to voters in the 12th ward of the municipality. In a video circulating on social media, Congress candidate’s husband Tirumal Yadav is seen offering money to a few people in the ward. The footage was reportedly captured near a polling centre, sources added.
