Hyderabad: A reputed name in the US Education System, Texas State University is the fifth-largest university in Texas. Located in the city of San Marcos, it was founded in 1899 to prepare the teachers in the Lone Star State that eventually became Texas State University (TSU) in 2003.
The university has a heritage of preparing students to make an impact in the world, including Lyndon B. Johnson, the only US President to graduate from a college in Texas.
Texas State University’s main campus, i.e., the ‘San Marcos Campus’ is spread across an area of 492 acres of Hilly land and consists of 245 buildings. It also has a satellite campus, i.e., the Round Rock Campus in Greater North Austin. Texas State University offers nearly 200 undergraduate and post-graduate degrees through its nine academic colleges.
The Graduate College offers 100 graduate master’s and doctoral programmes in Applied Arts, Education, Fine Arts and Communication, Health Professions, Liberal Arts, McCoy College of Business Administration and Science. Among many courses that the university offers, Psychology, Management, Marketing, lementary Education, Electrical Engineering, Journalism and Mass Communications, Nursing, Communication Design, Biology, and Criminal Justice are the most popular majors at TSU.
Texas State is among the top schools for students from outside the United States and is ranked 146th out of 1,204 in its Overall Best Value U.S. Colleges & Universities for International Students. TSU is ranked 282 out of a total of 1,279 colleges and universities for popularity with international students by College Factual. It is ranked 555th out of 1,232 total colleges and universities for providing a quality educational experience to international students. The most popular degrees at Texas State with international students are Computer Science, Liberal Arts General Studies, and General Engineering.
The university runs the Science, Technology, and Advanced Research (STAR) Park that is dedicated to accelerating technology commercialisation and applied research facility. Texas State’s “The Forensic Anthropology Center” is the largest forensics research facility in the world. Classified among “R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity”, Texas State is an emerging research university in the State of Texas.
TSU is also accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Recognised as one of the top universities producing Fulbright Scholars. Faculty from the various colleges have consistently been granted Fulbright Scholarships. Texas State became a tobacco-free campus in 2011.
As per the US News and World Report 2021, Texas State University is ranked #298-#389 in National Universities; #119 in Top Performers on Social Mobility; #154-#209 in Top Public Schools; #195-#206 in Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs. As per Times Higher Education, Texas State University is Ranked 1001+ in World University Rankings 2021; 501-600th in the U.S. College Rankings 2021; 101-200th in Impact Rankings 2020.
