It is the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri and several devotees in the city have been seen visiting temples in huge numbers to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva.
Many also find it to be an opportunity to visit some of the well-known pilgrimages in the State that have been an abode for the Bholenath and have also been considered to be some powerful temples in Telangana.
So gear up to visit these Shiva temples in the State:
Keesaragutta temple:
Keesaragutta Temple is located in the Keesara village – just an hour drive from the city. Also called Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his companions Bhavani and Siva Durga. Situated on the top of a hill in Rangareddy district, the temple has several shiva lingas placed at several spots in the temple.
Chaya Someswara Swamy Temple:
Located in Nalgonda district of Telangana , around 100 km from Hyderabad, the temple was built during the 11th and 12th century by the Ikshvaku family. The temple got the name as it is believed that there is an everlasting shadow on the Lingam in the main temple, all day.
Ramappa Temple:
The Ramalingeswara Temple which is popularly known as the Ramappa temple is one such amazing piece of art that stands as a testimony of the royal Kakatiyas. The temple got its name after its chief sculptor Ramappa. It is probably the only temple in the country to be known by the name of its sculptor. The temple located in Warangal is around 4-hour drive from Hyderabad.
1000 Pillar Temple:
Again located in Warangal, the 1000 pillar temple is a place not only for devotees but for every history enthusiast and architecture lover. Built in the 12th century, by the Rudra Deva, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Named as Sri Rudreshwara Swamy Temple, it has been built in the architectural style of Chalukyan Temples.
Sri Raja Rajeshwara Temple:
The Sri Raja Rajeshwara Temple is located in Vemulawada – around 180kms from Hyderabad which is about 180 kms from Hyderabad. The temple is considered to be the most beautiful and the most popular Shiva Temple in Telangana region. Here, Lord Shiva is seen in the form of Sri Raja Rajeshwara and people in the locality fondly refer to him as Rajanna.
Kaleshwaram Temple:
Located in the Kaleshwaram town in Telangana and Maharashtra border – around 265 kms from the city – the Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy is known for the presence of two Lingams holding on to a single pedestal or the Panavattam. The temple gets its name Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy mandiram because of the dual presence of Lord Shiva or the Mukteshwara and the other is the Lord Yama or Kaleshwar.
