Hyderabad: Hyderabad is famous for its food – especially street food. And one food stall is so good that it has been luring people for over six decades now.
As evening approaches, Bhagawathi Panipuri aka Famous Gupchup shop at Kachiguda near Mahankali temple comes alive with hungry folks rushing to get their fix of panipuri and chaat.
The eatery, run by Bhagawathi Bai, has been a go-to place for a lot of gol gappa buffs in the city for years now. The mere sight of tangy mouthfuls of heaven here can make you run down the road to get your fill of the snack.
Go here anytime between 5 pm to 7 pm, and you’ll find it super crowded. Street food lovers will be bustling with more than enough on one’s plate.
However, in those two hours, she says she sells hundreds of plates of panipuri and chaat. One that really awes customers here is amla water that is used in puris instead of traditional tamarind dilute.
The eatery was started at the same place almost 60 years back by Bhagawathi’s grandfather. However, the 65-year-old later took over the business and has been running it for the past 35 years.
“The business grew so much that I needed a helping hand. My sons, Rajeshwar and Maheshwar, were the best offers. They did engineering but felt that a 9 to 5 job is not their cup of tea. They help me and want to continue the business legacy,” says Bhagawathi.
There isn’t much for that matter at her eatery. A table, a few bowls, and water can make up her joint. But the popularity goes much beyond that. Right from puris to spiced water, each thing is made by hand at home.
Apart from panipuri, you definitely shouldn’t miss a hot plate of ragda chaat here. Also, titbits are really inexpensive here.
