Hyderabad: You are placed inside a lift and taken to the top of a high-rise building. Then the lift door opens and you are told to walk to the end of the plank from where you get an aerial view of a city. You again step into the lift and with open doors you experience a sudden fall to the ground.
All this is happening with your feet firm on the ground and no safety harness. If you are imagining how, then the answer is Virtual Reality (VR).
Through different games, VR zones offer a closer to reality experience in the virtual world. And combine this with Irani chai or coffee and light appetizers, your weekend is set. This is what Hyderabad’s very own VR Game Café at Kondapur has set to achieve.
With 10 different VR sets available along with five to six tables, the café has gained traction in the last few months. It offers around 30 different VR games for its visitors starting from basic kids or teenage games to advanced games involving boxing, cricket and motor racing. A cosy little cricket ground, a boxing ring and a racing car provide the perfect set-up for the games.
“We stayed in the US for five years and there we saw VR cafes where people from all age groups could enjoy an adventurous weekend with their family without stepping out of a closed space. When we came back to India, we saw that not many such VR experience zones exist. Initially, we wanted to have only a VR experience zone but later we thought of combining it with a café and that’s how VR Game Café was born,” says Satishchandra Goud Aily, who runs the café along with his wife Naga Shalini Aily.
The café offers a free experience for first time visitor which is for about 15 minutes and it charges Rs 350 for 30 minutes of gaming and Rs 600 for one hour. Customers can choose from different games and the café also offers multiple player games so as to keep the competitive spirit intact. From offering shooting games to simple brain teasers to motor racing games, the place offers something for everyone.
“In these times when travelling has become restricted, these games offer a way out for people from their mundane lives,” says Satishchandra. In terms of food, the place offers a variety of hot and cold drinks along with a few starters and the star is definitely their in-house Irani chai.
