Hyderabad: If you set your heart on something, you will move mountains to achieve it.
That’s quite literally what happened with Hyderabad-based mountaineer Mutchintala Sai Raj Vamsheekar. The 24-year-old patriot has just completed his trek from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in honour of our freedom fighters. Completing close to 3,700 km in 75 days, Vamsheekar is feeling ecstatic upon finally reaching Kanyakumari.

He shared with ‘Telangana Today’, “I trained professionally in mountaineering before starting this expedition. I started the trek on September 16 from Lal Chowk, Srinagar, and concluded it on November 28 at Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari. I’ve been into all kinds of adventure sports since the year 2016. Being an NCC cadet, I’ve even received training from the Army. As India completed its 75th Independence Day, my target was to complete this trek in 75 days.”
Vamsheekar says he thoroughly enjoyed his trek as he thought of each day as a new day.
Although he faced small challenges like losing his phone and some locals in Pampore, Kashmir trying to get into a fight with him, the BBM graduate braved all odds to reach the finish line. “Through this achievement of mine, I also want to encourage youngsters to get fit and get into physical activities and sports. I am a supporter of the Fit India Movement and I believe in the benefits of walking and running over gymming,” says Vamsheekar, who did the expedition with some help from his family and friends.
Vamsheekar, who obtained an Alpha grade from the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, hopes to attract sponsors for his future expeditions.
The young mountaineer is also a gold medal winner in reverse blindfold waterfall rappelling and a silver medal winner in waterfall rappelling. He has previously climbed Mt. Bhagirathi II (6512M) and most recently completed winter alpine skills climbing camp from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.
