Threat of heat wave recedes in Telangana as thunderstorms awaits in first half of May

Until May 12, almost the entire Telangana will receive thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds

Hyderabad: The threat of having to deal with severe heat wave conditions this year, for the month of May has receded. The Hyderabad MET department’s forecast on Sunday evening has indicated that until May 12, almost the entire Telangana will receive thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds.

In fact, during the first half of May, maximum temperatures in most districts will hover between 36 degree Celsius and 40 degree Celsius. This is a far cry from the typical month of May every year, when summer peaks and the mercury consistently hovers between 42 degree Celsius and 45 degree Celsius.

The IMD-Hyderabad forecast indicates that all the regions of Telangana, depending on the intensity, will witness thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds. In districts under an orange alert, the wind speeds will be between 40 and 50 kmph along with hailstorms while in districts with yellow alert, the wind speeds will hover between 30 and 40 kmph.

Till May 7, the MET department has issued orange and yellow alerts of severe and moderate thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds accompanied with hailstorms in all districts.

Till Monday, 12 districts including Wanaparthy, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Narayanpet, Nagarkurnool, Medak, Mancherial, Mahabubnagar, KumaramBheem Asifabad, Kamareddy, Jogulamba Gadwal and Adilabad will have maximum temperatures between 41 degree Celsius and 44 degree Celsius. From Tuesday onwards, all the districts till the coming weekend (Friday) will have maximum temperatures between 36 degree Celsius and 40 degree Celsius.
