Hyderabad: The Municipal Administration and Urban Development authorities are busy finalising three civic bodies, which are likely to be announced by the end of January.
Among others, the authorities are learnt to be examining proposals to divide the civic bodies either into 100 wards in each municipal corporation or 150 wards in one corporation and 75 wards in two municipal corporations.
Sources in the GHMC told Telangana Today that the GHMC is likely to be divided into three municipal corporations. “We have submitted all the geographical information on 300 wards, which already have fixed boundaries, along with maps of each ward,” said an official.
The sources said the State government planned to retain the existing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation with 100 wards, Greater Secunderabad Municipal Corporation with 100 wards and Greater Cyberabad Municipal Corporation with 100 wards, but there was no clarity.
Once the State government agreed to three municipal corporations, there would be a total of three mayors for the three corporations combined. Each corporation would have 20 circles and five zones. Each zone would have four circles, said a senior GHMC official.
An IAS officer at the secretary level would be appointed as the commissioner for each corporation. After completion of the exercise, the final notification was expected in January, with elections scheduled for April–May, the GHMC sources added.
GHMC commissioner R V Karnan, while speaking to the media on Wednesday, said, “Already new police commissionerates announced and simultaneously, three municipal corporations may also be announced based on the 300 GHMC wards covered under new commissionerates.”
