Three patients, two staff injured as roof collapses at MGM Hospital in Warangal

Three patients, two sanitation workers and others were injured after concrete slabs and portions of the false ceiling collapsed in the Aarogyasri ward of MGM Hospital in Warangal. Hospital authorities inspected the ward as patients sought immediate corrective measures

Warangal: Exposing the poor state of affairs at MGM Hospital here, three patients, two sanitation workers and a few others were injured when concrete slabs from the roof collapsed in the Aarogyasri ward of the hospital on Sunday.

In the incident, chunks of concrete from the roof, along with portions of the false ceiling, fell on the beds in the ward. As a result, three patients — Mastan, Saraiah and Swaroopa — who were undergoing treatment in the ward suffered injuries. Two sanitation workers, Yellamma and Omkar, were also injured. Ceiling fans in the ward were damaged in the incident.

A few others who had visited the hospital to check on the patients were also injured. All the injured were shifted to the emergency ward for treatment. Hospital superintendent Dr Ram Kumar Reddy inspected the ward where the incident occurred and visited the injured persons.

According to hospital staff, similar incidents have occurred at MGM Hospital in the past, but no steps were taken to address the problem. Patients and their family members demanded that the hospital authorities take immediate steps to prevent such incidents from recurring.
