Khammam: Three Punjabi migrant workers were missing in Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) left canal (Mangapuram Major Canal) near Kattakuru village in Mudigonda mandal in the district.
The incident which was said to have taken place on Monday late night hours came to light on Tuesday morning. The missing workers were Gami (30), Sajan (19) and Mani (29), who were rice harvesting machine operators, came to Kattakuru to harvest paddy.
It was said that one of the workers accidentally fell into the canal while relieving himself on the canal bund. The two others who tried to save him also fell in the canal and got washed away. The locals who found the slippers and motorbikes of the workers on the bund on Tuesday informed the police and NSP officials.
The NSP authorities reduced the flow of water into the canal to trace out the missing persons. Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot. SI Thota Nagraj said that the authorities of the adjoining mandals were also informed about the incident. The bodies of the missing were men not yet recovered.
