Thukkuguda nurse rape-murder case solved, bike mechanic arrested

A 34-year-old bike mechanic has been arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a 21-year-old nurse in Thukkuguda. Police said technical evidence and clues from the crime scene helped crack the case within 30 hours. Further forensic investigation is underway.

Hyderabad: The mystery behind the rape and murder of a nurse in Thukkuguda was solved when the police arrested a bike mechanic based on technical evidence and clues gathered from the scene of offense, here on Monday. The gruesome murder of the 21-year-old nurse was reported on August 29, and several police teams that worked relentlessly cracked the mystery within 30 hours with the arrest of Md Sanaullah (34) on charges of rape and murder of the nurse.

The sensational case came to light when the victim’s aunt approached the Pahadishareef police after being informed that the woman had not responded to repeated calls and knocks at her room. The victim, who had been working as a nurse at a private hospital in Thukkuguda, was found dead inside the residential premises.

Sanaullah, a native of Bihar, reportedly migrated to the city three years ago and was working and staying at a bike mechanic shop near the hospital before shifting to another workshop belonging to the same employer in Thukkuguda about two months ago, investigators disclosed.

According to Shamshabad DCP B Rajesh, the suspect cast his eye on the 21-year-old nurse through the rear window of the mechanic shop and kept a watch on her movements. He learnt that she worked at the nearby hospital and stayed in its residential rooms and subsequently developed a sexual interest that led him to plan the assault.

Reconstructing the crime scene, police revealed that Sanaullah entered the victim’s room through a window around 12:30 am on August 29. When she woke up and raised an alarm, the suspect tried to silence her by covering her mouth and restraining her, prompting a fierce struggle during which she bit his left little finger and scratched his throat and the left side of his chest.

Police allege that the suspect then attacked her on the face, pushed her down, and strangled her before sexually assaulting her and fleeing the room by closing the window. Following the discovery of the body—which came to light on August 29 after the victim’s aunt approached the police when she failed to respond to repeated calls and knocks—investigators examined technical evidence and local movements to effect the arrest on Sunday.

Authorities are continuing to collect and analyse forensic, scientific, and technical evidence to firmly establish the circumstances of the crime.
