Thunderstorms lash Hyderabad, heatwave set to return from Friday
Hyderabad witnessed a sudden spell of thunderstorms, gusty winds and hailstorms on Thursday, bringing temporary relief from the scorching summer heat. Several areas, including Secunderabad, faced traffic disruptions as rain and hail lasted nearly an hour.
Hyderabad: After days of dry scorching heat, Hyderabad had a much-needed respite with thunderstorms, gusty winds and hailstorms lashing different parts of the city on Thursday.
The relief, in the form of a drop in peak temperatures, however, may be short-lived, as weather forecasts indicated temperatures would start rising, paving the way for dry heatwave conditions from Friday.
On Thursday afternoon, traffic in several parts of Secunderabad came to a grinding halt as an intense spell of rain and hail lasted nearly an hour.
The sudden downpour provided respite from the summer heat, though the abruptness of the storm caught commuters off guard, forcing them to seek shelter under trees and commercial complexes. Neredmet, Malkajgiri, Kapra, Alwal, Yapral, Cherlapally, Dammaiguda, Trimulgherry, Uppal, Nagole, Musheerabad, Serilingampally, and Tellapur, experienced thunderstorms and winds.
Scattered thunderstorms were also reported in Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Rangareddy, Siricilla, Karimnagar and Macherial districts. While there could be sporadic spells of thundershowers in districts, the IMD-Hyderabad in its forecast indicated a possible change in the weather pattern and a rise in temperatures.
“Dry weather is likely to prevail all over Telangana. Maximum temperatures might increase by 1 degree Celsius to 2 degree Celsius in the coming three days,” the forecast said.
