Mancherial: A tiger which moved in the forests of the district and killed a calf is believed to have went back into the forests in the neighboring Kumram Bheem Asifabad district on Sunday, bringing relief to the farmers and villagers from this region.
Forest officials who were tracking the tiger movement said the tiger stayed for around a week Kasipet mandal forest areas. It did not come back to eat the leftover meat of its kill calf. Special teams were detailed to track the tiger in Devapur, Bellampalli and Tiryani ranges. They predicted that it might have returned to the forests of Tiryani in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.
Officials confirmed that a male sub adult tiger, which came from Maharashtra forest areas was roaming on the borders of Tiryani of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district and Kasipet mandals. It might have drifted towards the forests of Mancherial and killed the calf on July 8, sparking panic among farmers and villagers. Pugmarks of the tiger were recorded at the spot of the cattle killing at Venkatapur.
However, farmers and villagers have been advised to remain cautious, move in groups, and avoid sending cattle too deep into the forest. Forest staff urged residents to report any sightings or signs of the tiger and said awareness drives were underway to educate locals on safety measures.
On July 6, the tiger reportedly tried to attack a herd of cattle in the forests of Edulapahad village in Tiryani mandal, causing panic in the area. It had entered Telangana from Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve of Maharashtra in search of territory and prey a few weeks back.
