Hyderabad: A study of 388 Covid-19 positive patients during the second wave, taken up by doctors at Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Gachibowli, has indicated that the quality of life among the patients improves and their symptoms gets resolved after three months post Covid-19 infection when compared to the follow-up at one month.

The TIMS study of Covid-19 patients between February and June, 2021, a preprint with The Lancet and part of Social Science Research Network (SSRN)’s First Look where preprints areavailable, said that ‘Most of the symptoms improved at 3 month follow-up when compared to 1-month. Out of 388 patients, 283 reported persistent symptoms at 1-month follow-up, while at 3 month follow-up, only 83 reported ongoing symptoms including weakness, body pains, cough, fever and shortness of breath”.

The TIMS researchers said ‘This is one-of-a-kind study in India representing the health-related outcomes after 1 and 3 months post-Covid-19 infection. We found that at a 3-month follow-up, most proportion of patients showed improvement and resolution of persistent symptoms compared to 1-month follow-up post Covid-19 infection”.

The researchers concluded “Patients have shown improved quality of life and reduced symptoms after 3 months of discharge. Better treatment protocols for long term consequences of Covid-19 infection and rehabilitation programs should be introduced”.
