Kothagudem: An 18-month-old boy drowned after falling into a pit dug for the construction of an Indiramma house at Nadikudi in Dummugudem mandal on Friday.

According to locals, the pit at the under-construction Indiramma house had filled with water after rainfall on Thursday night. The boy, Akshay Kumar, who was playing outside the house, accidentally fell into the pit.

After a while, his mother Ammaji searched for him as he was not seen in the house and found him floating in the pit. His father, Tushti Suresh, rushed him to the PHC at Narasapuram, where medical officer Dr Subhash performed CPR on the boy but could not save him.

Suresh and Ammaji had the boy ten years after their marriage. A pall of gloom descended on the village following the boy’s death. A case has been registered by the local police in connection with the incident.
