Sangareddy: Finding that several employees working in industries lack proper training on how to respond during fire accidents, Director General of Telangana Disaster Response and Fire Services, Y Nagi Reddy, advised industry managements in the Pashamylaram industrial area to send employees to the department’s training centre for basic fire safety training.
In the wake of the Sigachi accident—which claimed more than 50 lives—Nagi Reddy held a review meeting with owners of various industries in Pashamylaram on Monday. During the interaction, the senior IPS officer observed that workers were not trained to operate fire extinguishers or other emergency equipment during fire incidents.
Industrialist Satyanarayana cited the example of Enviros Waste Management Services, where workers on duty fled the premises after seeing a minor fire, despite the availability of extinguishers. The fire quickly spread throughout the facility on Sunday, causing massive property loss.
The industrialists present agreed to send their staff for fire safety training. DG Nagi Reddy emphasised that industry managements must follow safety protocols strictly to prevent loss of life and property in such emergencies.
