Hyderabad: Transco and Genco Chairman and Managing Director Prabhakar Rao has directed the officials and engineers of the electricity department to be cautious as lower demand for power because of continuous rains has led to increasing voltage. The CMD is monitoring the fluctuations in demand and supply and directing the load dispatch all through the night.

“The demand for power has drastically come down from 12,000 MW to 4300 MW. While watching the increase in voltage, the hydel power engineers were also advised to be cautious while continuing with the generation of 1500 MW through hydro electrical units,” he said in a statement. He further said that all thermal power generation units have stepped down power production keeping the decrease in demand.

He advised citizens to inform the electricity authorities if they find any snapped power lines or uprooted electricity poles. “People must be extra cautious while passing through areas where the electrical lines or transformers were submerged in rainwater,” he said. He said that citizens can call the fuse call office at 1912 or 100 if they find submerged cellars of residential or commercial complexes. He advised the welfare associations of apartment complexes to shut off power supply if the cellar areas were submerged by rain water.
