Travellers Association seeks subway at Goutham Nagar LC gate

Hyderabad: The Travellers Association has brought to attention the severe hardships faced by the commuters and vehicle users due to the frequent closure of the level crossing (LC) gate between Dayanand Nagar and Malkajgiri station, particularly at Goutham Nagar LC Gate No. 254. This issue particularly affects students and office-goers who commute daily.
According to the association, the gate remains closed for extended periods, often up to 15-30 minutes, due to consecutive train passages. This causes significant inconvenience to commuters, especially given the presence of essential institutions and offices on both sides of the gate, including government offices, hospitals, educational institutions and the GHMC office.
“Despite multiple visits by Malkajgiri MP and MLA to meet Railway officials, the issue remains unresolved. Railway officials claim that the municipal authorities have not submitted the necessary drawings for the project,” said Noor Ahmed Ali, president of Long Trains and MMTS Travellers Association.
Recently, the issue was also raised by the Zonal Railway Users Committee members. The Travellers Association suggested a Limited Height Subway at Goutham Nagar gate, preferably a pre-cast box-type Road Under Bridge (RUB), to alleviate the traffic congestion and inconvenience.
Additionally, the local residents request immediate attention to the boulders that have fallen on the main road, some of which are in a precarious position and pose a significant risk to road users.
“We urge the authorities to break these boulders to ensure the safety of road users. The authorities concerned should take immediate action to resolve this issue and provide relief to the commuters. The early planning and execution of the RUB would greatly benefit the residents and commuters of the area,” said Rajan, a resident of Malkajgiri.
Meanwhile, with the recent hike in Telangana State Road Transport Corporation bus fares across Hyderabad, commuters are now requesting that SCR increase the frequency of MMTS train services to provide a more affordable travel option.
Several MMTS trains are running with nearly empty coaches on certain routes. Despite having 10–12 coaches per train, some services see fewer than ten passengers per coach.
