Hyderabad: TrayamBhu Tech Solutions (TRST01), a city-based supply chain traceability and digital public infrastructure company, has received a Notification of Award from Telangana Technology Services Limited (TGTS) for the implementation of traceability of GI-tagged Tandur Red Gram for the Agriculture department from the State.

The project covers the on boarding of about 65,000 farmers, who grow Tandur Red Gram in the designated area of Telangana. This traceability initiative for Tandur Red Gram by TRST01 will provide farmers with a unique digital identity, strengthen their bargaining power in the market, and promote the inclusion of women farmers inthe agricultural ecosystem.

Tandur Red Gram, popularly known as Tandur Toor Dal, is Telangana’s first agricultural product to receive a Geographical Indication (GI) tag. The GI is held by Yalal Farmers Producers Company Limited which filed the application with support from Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU). As part of this project, TRST01 will register each of the about 65,000 farmers with a digital profile linked to their land, crop and harvest. For the first time, the individual grower behind every lot of Tandur Red Gram will be recorded and recognized, rather than disappearing once the produce reaches a trader.

The Company will also build a digital record that follows Tandur Red Gram from the farm plot throughaggregation, processing and distribution to the buyer. TRST01 will undertake the mapping of farm plots and checking against the registered GI area of Tandur, to ensure GI authenticity of the produce ending the problem of fake ‘Tandur Dal’. Only produce that comesfrom within this area and from registered farmers will carry a verified Tandurorigin, giving real meaning to the GI tag.

The Tandur Red Gram crop is grown in the rainfed black soils of the Tandur region in Vikarabad district, Telangana. These soils arerich in limestone and attapulgite clay, which give the dal its taste, cooking quality and 22–24 percent protein content.
