Hyderabad: Rich tributes were paid to fallen bravehearts of the Indian Army on the occasion of Army Day on Saturday. As part of nationwide celebrations, a wreath-laying ceremony was organised at Veerula Sainik Smarak, Army Parade Ground, Secunderabad.
The sequence of events started with the laying of a wreath by the junior-most soldier followed by other senior officers of the station culminating with the wreath laid by Lieutenant General TSA Narayanan, Commandant, Military College of EME & Colonel Commandant of Corps of EME.
The occasion was a spectacular event with the presence of the Military band and the nominated officers and soldiers attired in full ceremonial dress adorning glittering medals depicting their various achievements in the service of the nation while paying due homage to the fallen bravehearts, their brethren in uniform who laid their life in defending the nation.
Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year. Field Marshal K M Cariappa (then Lt Gen) took over as first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher on January 15, 1949.
