Hyderabad: She is all of 16 years. But give her a bat, Gongadi Trisha can wield it like a magic wand. She is passionate, enthusiastic and energetic. She is a NextGen cricketer.
This talented women cricketer stole the show in the recently concluded BCCI-conducted under-19 Challenger one-day series. She played a big part in India B’s title triumph.
Trisha forged a highly successful opening partnership with skipper Anushka Sharma. The Hyderabad batter had 112, 60 not out, 54 and 78 not out to emerge as the top scorer with 260 runs. “It really thrills when I look back at these scores. I wanted these runs badly as it was a big challenge. I myself volunteered to my India B coach Srinivas to open the innings. I’m happy that I did not disappoint my team,’’ said Trisha on her return from Jaipur (Rajasthan).
Fitness has played a big role in Trisha’s fledgling career. Father GV Rami Reddy ensured that his daughter was strong in her basics and at the same time she would take care of the fitness part from a young age. Having held the bat at the age of three and thrown into the game at a young age, Trisha represented Hyderabad when she was only eight years old representing the State under-16 team.
She never looked back. Although she was in the various Hyderabad teams like under-16, under-19, under-23 and the senior team, Trisha could not express herself solidly before this tournament. ‘Indeed this performance would give a lot of confidence. “I was happy with the way I could play my strokes boldly. I was determined to stay till the end of the innings. That is the reason I’m happy with my 76 which I scored in the final as I took the team home,’’ she said.
Apart from her powerful batting, it is her fastish leg spin that made her a successful cricketer. “I worked a lot on batting and bowling before the season. I missed the Senior one-day cricket tournament because of the under-19 challenger. But I want to work hard for the Senior T20 tournament that will be held in February next year,’’ she signed off.
Trisha is sure to make a big mark in the coming years. The national selectors would have surely taken notice of her match-winning performances.
