Nalgonda: Thungathurthy MLA Gadari Kishore Kumar on Thursday appealed to farmers as well as common people to support the decision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to fight against the anti-farmers’ and anti-people’s policies being pursued by the Centre.

Speaking at a media conference at Shaligowraram in the district, the TRS MLA said that 100 per cent hike in the prices of fertilizers would break the back of farmers. “It would also push the agriculture sector in the country into a crisis. The Centre should in fact same amount as subsidy to save the farmers,” he said.

Pointing out that Chandrashekhar Rao had written to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on the issue on behalf of the farmers, Kishore Kumar said during his elections campaign, Narendra Modi promised that incomes of farmers would be doubled by 2022, but crop investment had in reality doubled. He ticked off the Centre for its failure to ensure Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops raised by farmers, and sought a law to ensure MSP.

The Centre has also conspired to fix meters to electricity connections of agricultural pump sets, which would create a hurdle in providing free power to farmers, the MLA said, and pointed out that hike in petrol and diesel prices had caused direct and indirect financial burden on the people in the country.

He said that the farmers should be united and stop the Centre from making agriculture a monopoly of the corporate sector.
