Hyderabad: The ruling TRS continues to win the hearts of the people of Telangana State that is evident from the results of elections at various levels, from the State down to the village. The party now has a strong base of 16,000 elected representatives in the State at various levels from Parliament members to gram panchayat ward members.
The strong presence of a political party in the local bodies proves its hold over State politics. TRS has been maintaining an upper hand in the elections to both rural and urban local bodies elections. The recent elections to the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation, Khammam Municipal Corporation and five other municipalities are no exception. Of the 142 urban local bodies (ULBs), about 138 ULBs have governing councils where 130 ULBs including all 13 municipal corporations have been won by the TRS.
The Opposition parties including the Congress and the BJP have been restricted to just eight municipalities of 138 ULBs for which elections were held.
The TRS has already proved its might in the rural local bodies on different occasions including elections to gram panchayat, mandal parishad, zilla parishad and even primary agricultural cooperative societies (PACS). Accordingly, there are 8,606 TRS backed sarpanches of total 12,769 sarpanches in the State. Similarly, 823 of 904 PACS were won by the TRS supported candidates. The party had also won all 18 posts of DCCB chairpersons and DCMS chairpersons (nine each).
Further, the TRS won 449 of 538 ZPTC seats and secured all 32 Zilla Parishad chairpersons’ posts. The party also bagged 431 of 537 Mandal Parishad Presidents’ seats, with 3,571 of total 5,816 MPTC posts in its kitty. The TRS had also secured 1,679 out of total 2,849 municipal ward member posts and 117 of 125 municipal chairpersons’ posts. Similarly, the party had won all 13 Municipal Mayor posts apart from bagging 333 of 661 municipal corporator posts in different municipal corporations.
