TRS urges SEC to remove symbols similar to car
TRS leaders met State Election Commissioner C Parthasarathi and formally made a complaint and requested him to be careful while allocating symbols that are similar to the TRS party’s symbol
Hyderabad: Citing the example of the “Roti Maker” symbol allocated to an independent candidate in the recently concluded Dubbak by polls that looked like a car, TRS’ symbol, the party on Monday urged the Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC) to remove such options that may cause confusion among the voters during the GHMC elections.
State Planning Board Vice Chairman B Vinod Kumar, MLA Lakshma Reddy, MLC Srinivas Reddy, and TRS general secretary Bharat met State Election Commissioner C Parthasarathi and formally made a complaint and requested him to be careful while allocating symbols that are similar to the TRS party’s symbol.
They submitted that in the past too, the party had suffered electoral losses in both Assembly and Parliament elections because of symbols such as auto, truck, road roller and so on that confused the voters. They pointed out that the Election Commission, following the party’s complaint, had removed such confusing symbols from the list of options provided to independent candidates.
Later speaking to the media, Vinod Kumar said that Hyderabad has been recognised as one of the most peaceful cities in the country. “People from different states live here as one because of the impeccable law and order situation prevailing here. We have also requested him to keep a tab on social media activists that are trying to vitiate the situation by spreading false news,” he said.
The TRS representatives urged the commissioner to take stern action on such activists who are trying to spread rumours for political gains. They alleged that efforts are being made by certain forces to create communal tensions in the GHMC area through social media posts.
