Hyderabad: The stage is set for the plenary session of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s (TRS) at Hitex on Monday. The plenary is being held after a gap of three years, and is particularly significant since it marks two decades of the party’s existence.
Elaborate arrangements have been made at the venue for the plenary session which will also see the re-election of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao as the party president.
As many as 18 sets of nominations were filed by Ministers, elected representatives and party leaders pledging support to the candidature of Chandrashekhar Rao, TRS working president K T Rama Rao said.
It has been a tradition to organise the party plenary on April 27 every year, marking the party’s foundation day. However, due to Lok Sabha polls in 2019 and Covid-19 pandemic over the last two years, the plenary could not be conducted by the party. The last time the plenary was held was in 2018. The various committees that were set up by the party for the smooth conduct of the plenary have left no stone unturned in the past 10 days, ensuring that all arrangements are in place.
The party has restricted the number of delegates to 6,500 this time around on account of Covid-19 pandemic. Initially, it was planned to invite 14,000 delegates but the number was brought down to 6,500 because of the pandemic.
The programme will commence at 10 a.m. and after completion of constituency-wise and district-wise registrations at the 35 counters, the actual proceedings will begin at 11 am. Returning Officer and former MLC Srinivas Reddy will make a formal announcement on the unanimous election of Chandrashekhar Rao as party president.
After the party president’s address to the plenary, seven resolutions are expected to be presented at the meeting. In addition to these, there will be extensive discussions on State-level issues, including party affairs and party schedule for the next one year.
“There will be lot of vibrancy and activity in the party in the next nine months,” Rama Rao said.
Rama Rao said the plenary was being held this year since there was a decline in Covid-19 cases as also the extensive vaccination across the State. The TRS working president released a special song “Gulabi Janda KCR” made by party leader Karnati Vidyasagar. Suddala Ashok Teja has penned the lyrics for the song.
Clear instructions have been issued to the party workers that only those who have been invited should participate in the plenary. Sufficient parking arrangements have been made for vehicles in an area spread over 50 acres. Ministers and MLAs have made arrangement to bring workers from their respective constituencies in special buses.
Former MLC M Sreenivas Reddy is the Returning Officer for the party president’s election while Paryada Krishnamurthy is the supervising officer. Former Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary is the chairman of the resolutions committee.
